There are numerous schools and community colleges, offering nursing degrees to the students, who are willing to step into nursing field. But it is mandatory that the nursing institutes and programs offered by them should be approved by national and state approved US Nursing commissions such as National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or Kentucky Board of Nursing.
The main aim of the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) is to safe guard and promotes the welfare of people of Kentucky by overseeing that any nursing professional with a license should be competent enough to practice. These reasons has prompted KBN to regulate nursing practices and approve nursing programs to protect the public through safe nursing care.

Kentucky Nursing Degree

Three types of post secondary education nursing programs are provided by Kentucky:

• Practical Nursing
• Associate Degree
• Baccalaureate Degree
• Graduate Nursing Programs
• Doctoral Program

Associate degree nursing (NA to LPN) program consist of classroom and clinical practice of skills learned in the classroom setting. Supervised clinical practice takes place in hospitals and long term care facilities

Associate Degree (RN) program allows functioning in varieties of settings. Graduates of these programs are eligible to transfer academic credits to a baccalaureate completion program for RNs.

Baccalaureate Degree Program provides learning on leadership and responsibility through different practice settings. This course also helps a student, who is willing to pursue any specialized study through Masters Study. The course duration is 4 years including general education, nursing theory and clinical practice and research techniques.

Graduate Nursing Programs is a graduate degree with major in nursing. This course is advancement of knowledge, skills and competencies of baccalaureate nursing education for advanced knowledge and specialty nursing. This program becomes necessary for doctoral study.

Doctoral Programs course are for the entry into professional nursing practice and preparation for initial licensure.
