CNA Certification Test
Certified Nursing assistant or Certified Nursing aides (CAN), is needed to undergo specialized training to become certified. Different States follows different procedures, which makes it necessary that a student should attend CNA training classes, as approved by the specified State of origin. Basically this class consists of approximately 75 hours of trainings, which includes 51 hours of classroom instruction and 24 hours of practical person care giving in actual facilities. Once such training course is completed, the CNA student is needed to fill the form with State Board of Nursing by the instructor. It is necessary that the nursing assistant student will have to pass or clear, both written and hand on exams of State Board of Nursing to become certified in their field.
Basic requirements for the CNA Certification Test can be summed up as follows:
Firstly, the student should know that CNA certification course has two parts.
- Written Test
- Clinical Test
Written Test: The written test consist of his or her comprehension of the basic care given and medical details learned in the class and through reading materials.
Clinical Test: The clinical portion is consists of practical applications of the CNA student. For this test the CNA student is needed to show and demonstrate three to five nursing skills on a live model, which would be carefully observed by the state approved medical examiner. The test mainly covers proficiency in hand washing, positioning of patients, dignity of patient, measuring temperature of the patient, safety and bedpan changing. The CNA test may differ with each student but the results of their performance is informed immediately. The student is eligible to reappear again, if by chance he or she fails to pass the test. But there is difference between States, how many times and how often, the CNA student is eligible for the failed test. The procedure varies from State to State.
Important Instructions for the CNA Certification Test
- The notice notifying the date and place of test would be mailed to students mailing address.
- Practice 5 hand-on exam skills as a preparation for the clinical exam.
- Carry your ID, pencils and watch with second hand, while going to appear for the exam. The second hand on the watch is required if you are asked to take blood pressure or pulse beating.
- Communication with the patient with compassion and tender care is essential.
- Follow the rule regarding hand washing before approaching a patient.
- Take written test first. You may be asked 100 multiple choices questions and roughly takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on your answering skills.
- Wait and remain seated, keeping paper face down after written test is completed till instructor collects the answer script. You are then called and given a piece of paper with instructions to perform your clinical test.
