Attend 4 Week CNA Classes for Certification
If you think, that there are only 6 to 10 weeks CNA Training Programs, then you should know that, there are even 4 Week CNA Classes, which can get you CNA Certification.
In the United States, Certified Nursing assistant can be defined as a person, who have completed State approved training programs and passed competency evaluation tests. Their main job function after completion of certified nursing training, is to assist patients with everyday health care needs, offers bedside care by following nursing procedures under the active supervision of Licensed Registered Nurse. It is necessary that the nursing assistant student will have to pass or clear, both written and hand on exams of State Board of Nursing to become certified in nursing field.
In America, all states offer Nurse Aide Training Programs but after passing of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987, it has become mandatory that all states should regulate and approve Certified Nursing Training Programs as required by the federal authorities.
CNA Training Program consists of approximately 75 hours of trainings, which includes 51 hours of classroom learning and 24 hours of practical clinical training in laboratory or actual health care facilities. Though different states have different training period duration, the minimum is 75 hours to be completed in 6 to 10 weeks. But different states and various nursing training schools have scheduled their own training programs for the nursing aide student. Some tends to complete the training programs within 4 weeks but many have course duration of 6-10 weeks.
For example the Red Cross CNA Training in Pennsylvania has completion duration for 4 weeks, offers day courses only and is completed in 4 weeks time, whereas the Red Cross CNA Training in Georgia offers both day and evening classes. Day classes run for 3 weeks while evening classes continues for 6 weeks time period.
In general, other than few nursing schools, employer sponsored training programs can be completed in 3-4 weeks. But in such training program, the nursing aide student will have to pledge to work with the sponsored employer or long term unit after completion of trainings.
CNA after completion of training will have to appear for competency evaluation test, which includes written and clinical hands on skill test. After getting certification, they can work legally in long term care units, nursing homes and various health care centers.
The CNA training programs are offered in various nursing schools, community colleges and adult education centers.
