Certified Nursing Aides are certified to work in hospitals, nursing homes, long term health care units and other health centers under the supervision of registered nurse. A nursing aide should pass state and federal authority approved class room and clinical based training program to become eligible for certification exam and competency evaluation tests. After successful completion of exam and evaluation tests, CNA can work in health centers, home care centers and nursing homes, to look after the everyday need of patients, utilizing proper infection control standards, basic patient care training, medical terminology, taking vital signs, preparing simple dressing, and overall patient hygiene and other related training.

In Nevada, the responsibility to oversee nursing aide program lies with Nevada State Board of Nursing located in Reno, who also provides certification to nursing aides. In Nevada, a CNA program requires a minimum of 75 hours of training and education with at least 60 hours of class and laboratory work.

Student should complete a state approved Certified Nursing Assistant training program.

Pass the National Nurse Aid Assessment Program examination (NNAAP) or competency evaluation test, if you are a new CNA. If you hold CNA certification in a state other than Nevada, you do not need to re-take the test, but rather submit a CNA endorsement completed by all states in which you have practiced as a CNA.

Obtain two fingerprint cards. These cards can be acquired at a local police station for a small fee.

Submit your completed fingerprint cards, a copy of your endorsement or examination records, and an application for your initial CNA certificate and any associated application fees to the Nevada State Board of Nursing located in Reno.
