CNA Training Programs in Nebraska

In Nebraska, to be certified as nursing aide, an individual must complete 75 hours of nursing training program combining classroom and clinical learning and pass competency evaluation examination in a Medicare/ Medicaid certified nursing facility and be listed on the nurse aide registry. Nurse aides who work in licensed nursing homes that are not Medicare or Medicaid certified, must have completed a state and federal approved 75 hour nurse aide course and competency evaluation programe. The nursing aide should also complete state approved 21 hours basic resident care course in an intermediate care facility for the mentally retarded(ICF-MR).

For the placement on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry, an individual should meet following criteria:

  • Be at least 16 years of age;
  • Be able to speak and understand the English language; and
  • Successfully complete, within 120 days of employment, a state approved 75 hour nurse aide training and competency evaluation program or 21 hour basic resident care course for intermediate care facilities for the mentally retarded.
  • Should not be convicted of a crime rationally related to act or behavior involving accepted more standard or participation in any illegal or unethical practice.

The certified nursing aide after successful completion of CBNA training program and who has passed competency evaluation program is automatically added to the registry within 30 days after the department is notified of successful completion of both the written and skills certification exams. Once an individual is placed on the nurse aide registry their status, remains active until such time as 24 months has lapsed since the individual stopped working as a nurse aide. An Individual who has not worked as a nurse aide for two years and who has taken an approved 75-hour nurse aide course may reactivate his/her registration by retaking the written and clinical exams.
