CNA License in New York

If you are a resident of New York and planning to enter nursing field from this state, you must remember that New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has the responsibility for administrating, regulating, reviewing and approving CNA training program. The state agency have also partnered with Prometric to develop, prepare and administer CNA License in the state of New York.

The basic requirements for CNA License in New York State include:

  • Completion of state and Federal OBRA-87 approved certified nurse aide training program, consisting of classroom theoretical course instructions and clinical/practical training.
  • Appear for Prometric regulated and administered, both Clinical Skills Test and written/Oral Test arranged at a Prometric Regional Test Site and In-Facility testing, located at key areas all over the state.

The completed Application Form for CNA Licensing Examination must be submitted with following requirements:

  • Photo Identification with signature (Driver License, Library Card, School ID, Credit Card)
  • Testing fees for Prometric
  • Test administration fees payable to the Regional Test Site and In-Facility testing.
  • Signed Social Security Card
  • Authorization to Test (ATT)
  • A second form of identification with signature

Prometric offered CNA Licensing exam consist of two separate parts and that includes:

  • Clinical Skill Test
  • Knowledge Test

A candidate appearing for the licensing exam must pass both tests to get CNA License. The skill demonstration test is conducted on a dummy/volunteer or live model. The test materials are prepared on the basis of classroom instructions, clinical hands-on training and subjects that are essential for safe and competent everyday nursing care to bed side patients in hospitals, long term care units and other health care facilities.
