If you are residing in the state of North Carolina and planning to start your career as CNA by working in hospitals, nursing homes, long term care units and other health care centers, you need to complete state Department of Public Health and OBRA-87 approved nurse aide training programs and obtain CNA License in North Carolina. The training is offered by numerous community colleges, technical institutes and nursing schools to the aspiring nursing students.

The completion of training allows a student to sit for the NNAAP Examination offered by Pearson VUE, who has been contracted by The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to develop, assess, manage process and administer NNAAP exam in North Carolina.

Any candidate appearing for CNA licensing Exam must meet certain test requirements, such as complete an Application for Competency Examination Registration form with completed application, a social security card, test fees, a photo ID and nursing aide program completion certificate. The completed form with relevant documents must be submitted to NACES.

NNAAP Examination for CNA License in North Carolina consists of two separate segments and that include:

• Written/oral test
• Clinical or skill evaluation test.

Written test have 60-70 multiple choice questions, where out of given 4 answers, only one answer is correct and that has to be ticked.

Skill test has to be conducted on a dummy or live model and 5 skills are randomly selected from 20-25 skills and that need to be demonstrated during the test.

The test questions are developed as per the classroom and clinical hands-on training of Nurse Aide training program of a CNA student.

A candidate must score 75% & above to clear both tests to earn CNA License in North Carolina. The passing of the test also allows a candidate to get listed with North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry.
