CNA License in Kentucky
In order to avail CNA License in Kentucky, you need to complete
State and OBRA/CFR approved Kentucky Medicaid Nurse Aide Program of the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department for Medicaid Services (DMS). The program includes classroom instruction and clinical hands-on trainings. The successful completion of nurse aide program allows a student to appear for the CNA Licensing test. The passing of certification test awards CNA License and permit registration with Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry.
The state of Kentucky has partnered with Kentucky Community and Technical College System to develop, administer and regulate the state CNA licensing test throughout the state. The earnings from certification test and nurse aide training programs are shared between the partnered institution and the KCTCS state-wide office of the nurse-aide coordinator.
Kentucky state CNA exam developed by the KCTCS consist of two separate parts including, Written/Oral Test and Skill demonstration test. The student will have to pass both tests to get certified.
Written/Oral (optional) Test
Written Test is based on questions from the subjects, such as communication and interpersonal skills, respecting resident’s rights and Safety/emergency procedures. The questions also feature Infection control and Promoting resident’s independence and clearing the obstructed airway on conscious adult, along with other various skills.
Skill Test
Skill demonstrations for the test includes, personal care, basic restorative services, care of cognitively impaired residents, mental health and social service needs, basic nursing and general nursing skills, and Caring for residents when death is imminent.
The passing of both tests with 70% & above awards CNA License in Kentucky and listing with Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry.
