CNA License in California

If you are aiming to obtain CNA License in California, you need to sit and pass NNAAP exam after completion of accredited nurse aide training program. The license allows you to work legally in various nursing homes, long term care units, hospitals and various other health care facilities. It is also to be noted that a candidate must clear the licensing test within two years of completion of training program. The failure to pass the exam, within this period will necessitate re-training for the exam again.

For managing, administering and regulating the competency evaluation licensing test in California, Pearson VUE has been contracted by The Chancellor’s Office of the California Community Colleges System (COCCC). Pearson Vue also prepares, assess, and report the results of the NNAAP Examination on behalf of the Nurse Aide I Registry.

COCCO has even selected few community colleges to serve as Regional Test Coordination Centers (Regional Centers) to manage the scheduling of the examination, administration of exam test sites, contract with the evaluators and schedule exam date. These test centers also liaison with between nursing assistant activities, Pearson VUE and the state of California National Nurse Aide Assessment and process candidate application for the NNAAP exam.

NNAAP Licensing Examination consists of two separate parts, written/oral test and clinical or skill evaluation test. The passing of test offers a candidate CNA License in California and listing with state Nurse Aide Registry.

Written/oral test features 70 multi choice questions and oral test is based on Psychosocial Care Skills, Physical Care Skills and Role of the Nurse Aide. Questions are provided on a cassette tape for listening.

Skill Test is performed on a volunteer, client or live model and 5 randomly selected skills, out of 25 skills are to be performed. Successful demonstration of skills passes candidate’s skill evaluation test.
