CNA Exam in South Dakota
In Delaware, a nursing aide student can get CNA certification by completing state and federal/OBRA’87 approved CNA Training programs of The South Dakota Health Care Association, which include classroom learning and clinical trainings. The successful completion of CNA training program makes a student eligible to sit for the competency evaluation test and certification, which facilitates listing with South Dakota Nurse Aide Registry, making him/her eligible to work legally in long term care units, hospitals, nursing homes, long term care units and health centers..
The South Dakota Health Care Association has contracted D&S Diversified Technology to regulate, test and to provide scoring services for Nursing Aide Testing.

A candidate willing to appear for the exam will have to fill up application form with their name, address, phone number, and social security number and send it with test fees in Money Orders, Cashier Checks, Facility Checks, Master card or Visa (including pre-paid Master Card or Visa). On-line registration is also available at www.hdmaster.com. After receiving the approval from OSDH, D&S mail or fax the list to the candidate.

Eligibility for the Exam
According to Delaware CNA Training Regulations, the Nurse Aide Candidates should meet following eligibility to sit for the Certification Exam:
- New Nurse Aides, who has completed DE Division of Long Term Care Residents Protection nurse aide training program within the last 24 months.
- Employed Nurse Aide students who have completed a “Fundamentals/Basic Nursing” course with a clinical component.
- Military or Hospital Trained Nursing Assistants, who have completed a military nursing assistant course or hospital-based nursing assistant training course of at least 150 hours with a CNA comparable training and qualification curriculum.
- Lapsed Nurse Aides:
- Reciprocity
- Out of State Certifications
- RN OR LPN

The Certification Exam consists of two separate parts:
- Written Test Outline
- Clinical
Written Test Outline/Oral (Optional)
- The written Test proctor regulates the written test.
- 75 multi-choice Questions are selected
- Time limit is 90 minutes
- Informed when 15 minutes are left
- Must score 75% & above to pass
- For Oral test cassette tape is given
The written test contents are based on requirements of OBRA regulations and include following topics:

- Infection control
- Nursing duties and responsibilities
- Mental Health
- Basic Nursing skills
- Resident rights
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills
- Personal Care skill
- Physical Health & Illness
- Aging Process
Clinical Test
- 5 skills are to be performed
- Time limit is 30 minutes
- Complete five skills to pass the test
- 75% or above score is necessary for each task performed, to pass the exam
- If failed in one skill test then 5 new set of skills including failed skill has to be performed.
The candidate will have to perform Hand Washing, along with additional skills, such as Measurement Recording, blood pressure measurement, counts and recording of Radial Pulse, Respiration recording Feeding and bed bath to the client, bed making, movement of the patient, Applying Antembolic Stockings, Denture, mouth and perennial care to female patient, proper use of bed pan, Donning and removing PPE (Gown and Gloves), Fluid Intake, client dressing and undressing, Ambulation with Gait Belt and Walker and so on.
